The forest in numbers

  • 866 hectares (2,140 acres) in 4 sections: the largest urban forest in Latin America.
  • 52 % of Mexico City's urban green space.
  • More than 24 million visits a year.
  • 148 bird species, 472 insect species, 24 reptile species.
  • 14 museums and conservation centers, 28 fountains, 95 monuments.

Four forests in one

  • First Section. The old forest: Chapultepec Castle, the National Museum of Anthropology, the zoo, the lakes and the La Milla track. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 5:00 am to 6:00 pm. Closed Mondays.
  • Second Section. Lakes, running tracks, Papalote Children's Museum, Aztlán amusement park and the best restaurants in the forest. Open 24 hours, 365 days. Dogs welcome.
  • Third Section. A protected natural area of ravines: trails, mountain biking, the PARCUR urban culture park and plenty of quiet. Open 24 hours.
  • Fourth Section. The newest one (2024): the Cineteca Nacional Chapultepec cinema, the former gunpowder factory, a 17th-century hermitage and the Santa Fe spring, on former military grounds.

Hours, rules and how to get there

What Chapuland does

  1. Discover and plan. A verified catalog of places, hours and prices, and an app that builds your plan with AI based on your budget, your company and your time.
  2. Enjoy and share. Saved plans that work offline, cards to share on social media, and a community that recommends, debates and discovers.
  3. Care. Public reports of litter, damage, safety or service issues, forwarded to the authorities and visible to everyone, so the forest gets better.

About the initiative

The app

Tell us how much time you have, who you're going with and how much you want to spend. Chapuland builds the plan: what to see, in what order, what it costs, what to bring and what to do if it rains. Free, in Spanish and English, no account needed to explore.
